I’ll start on Monday.

Yes, I’m going to start every “motivational” type article ensuring you that I’m not that type of guy.
Motivational speeches and content don’t typically do all that much for me. If it’s what actually gets you going and works, that’s great!
My thought with it is, even if I listen to it or not, I have to still do the work.
So… might as well cut out the middleman and just get to work.

Now if you didn’t catch it from that opener…. I’m a huge believer in just do the work.
An “exactly what you put in, you will get back” kind of mindset.
And with that, I know that if the work isn’t put in, you’ll never get anything back.
This becomes truer and truer the older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve done, and the adversity I’ve had. It’s all solidified this in the countless times I’ve put my head down and got to work. The majority of the time some beneficial outcome has followed… regardless of how small.

Which brings me to todays topic: Motivation vs Discipline.

I’m not going to compare and contrast these. And before you say anything, I know this topic of discipline is a huge talking point of your average stoic philosopher, life coach, or gym bro on YouTube. Again, that ain’t me.
I wont bore you with a lecture… but this next part is going to be my attempt some realization.

I do hope if you remember only one thing from this whole article, it’s this:

Don’t be a “Monday” or “new year, new me” person.

Because right now. Today. Is the best time to start.
And I want you to actually choose to start. Then keep doing it.
Be your own hype-man. Be your own sponsor. Be your own boss.
Treat your goals and ambitions like you do your job. It’s important to show up and do the work. Have a little fun with it, but get it done.
The only habits, good or bad that we have are the ones we keep choosing to do.

It’s also good to have supportive family & friends, yes.
But they still can’t MAKE you do anything. Definitely have someone else hold you accountable, yes.
But don’t fight it.
Because when it’s all said and done, YOU still have to keep making the choice.

“Do what is required.”

MINDSET

Every time you choose action over excuses, you reinforce the identity you’re trying to build.

Start today, not Monday.
Show up even when you don’t feel like it.
Be the one who follows through because it matters to you, not because someone hyped you up.

Your habits are the choices you keep making.
Choose the ones that get you where you want to go.

Train smart, but never forget to train hard.
